Zereda

Zereda was the birthplace of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who would become the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel (1 Kings 11:26). It was located in the hill country of Ephraim, though the exact site is uncertain. Some scholars identify it with Zarethan of 1 Kings 7:46 (where Solomon cast the bronze vessels) or with Zeredah of 2 Chronicles 4:17. Jeroboam's Ephraimite origin from this location is noted in connection with his mother Zeruah, who was a widow. The town may be modern Deir Ghassaneh or another site in the same region.
