Zeresh

Zeresh was the wife of Haman the Agagite, the powerful official of Ahasuerus who sought to destroy the Jewish people throughout the Persian Empire (Esther 5:10, 14; 6:13). After Haman's humiliation at having to honor Mordecai publicly, he poured out his humiliation to Zeresh and his friends. Zeresh and the wise men gave Haman an ominous counsel — that if Mordecai was of Jewish origin, Haman would certainly fall before him and could not prevail. This prophetic warning went unheeded; Haman was hanged on the very gallows he had prepared for Mordecai (Esther 7:9–10). The name Zeresh may derive from a Persian root meaning gold or misery.
