Zibiah

Person Name

Name meaning: "the Lord dwells; deer; goat"

Zibiah (meaning: deer; goat) was a woman of Beer-sheba and the mother of Joash king of Judah. She is mentioned in 2 Kings 12:1 and 2 Chronicles 24:1, both of which note that Joash began to reign when he was seven years old and that his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba. Beyond her name and hometown, nothing further is recorded of her in Scripture.

Her son Joash (also called Jehoash) was hidden in the temple for six years while Athaliah usurped the throne; when he was brought out and crowned, the faithful priest Jehoiada guided the early years of his reign, during which the temple was repaired.
