Ziz

Ziz (meaning: flower; branch; a lock of hair) was the name of a pass or ascent leading up from the Dead Sea region toward the wilderness of Judah. It appears in 2 Chronicles 20:16, where the Lord tells Jehoshaphat through the Levite Jahaziel that the vast Moabite-Ammonite army was coming up by the ascent of Ziz and would be found at the end of the valley before the wilderness of Jeruel.

Easton identifies the ascent of Ziz with a pass near En-gedi that leads upward from the Dead Sea toward Tekoa. The modern Tell Hasasah is suggested as the site. Jehoshaphat's army went out to face the invaders and found them already dead — the armies had turned on one another — and spent three days collecting the plunder.
