Zohar

Zohar (meaning: white; bright; dryness) is the name of two men in the Pentateuch. (1.) The father of Ephron the Hittite, from whom Abraham purchased the cave of Machpelah as a burial site for Sarah (Gen. 23:8). Abraham addressed Ephron as "son of Zohar" in the formal negotiation before the Hittite community, indicating Zohar was a man of standing. (2.) A son of Simeon, listed among those who went down to Egypt with Jacob (Gen. 46:10; Ex. 6:15). In Numbers 26:13 his name appears as Zerah, suggesting a variant spelling.

The two men named Zohar lived in the same general period — the patriarchal era — but in entirely different contexts, one as a Hittite elder and one as a son of Israel.
